Once Upon a Blog Hop: Steampunk Week

The Magic Attic

Over at The Magic Attic and BookBreather, there is an awesome giveaway involving steampunk genres. This is one of my favorite genres, so I am going to do the extra entry of making a post answering some questions about it. You can find the giveaway and all the details by clicking on the picture above. :)

What is your favorite steampunk book?

My favorite steampunk novel is still the first one I ever read, Airborn by Kenneth Oppel. I just love the characters and the adventure.

What are your thoughts on steampunk in general?

I think steampunk is a wonderful genre to unleash your imagination in. It is the ultimate what-if. You can do anything you like with it, imagining all the different ways the world might have changed if it hadn't gone in the direction it has.

Are there any authors you would like to see try their hand at writing steampunk?

Oh, yes. I would love to see Patricia C. Wrede try steampunk, she has come awfully close a couple of times but never quite. I also think that Maggie Stiefvater could come up with an interesting steampunk world.

Are there any steampunk books being released that you are especially excited about?

I am really, really excited about Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare and Goliath by Scott Westerfeld. Also, even though it is already out, I really want to read The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross. My local library hasn't bought it so it is on my Christmas wishlist. :)

  1. I too am looking forward to Clockwork Prince... I loved Clockwork Angel. I'm going to check out Airborn as I've never heard of it. Have you read Philip Reeve's Mortal Engine series? It's not exactly steampunk, but close, and very very good.
