Follow Friday (10) and Book Blogger Hop (10)

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee.

This week's topic is: In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythological creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

Dragons! Not the evil ones of really old stories, but the ones with personalities like in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles or Eragon.

This week's topic is: Non-book-related question this week! Do you have a pet?

Oh yes, I have a pet. Or rather, pets. At my house, we have seven goats named Lily, Holly, Mimsy, Daisy, Zephyr (also called Twiggy), and Zinnia. We also have four cats who go by the names of Kindle, Cricket, and Fritz. There has been so much debate over our little black kitten's name that he doesn't have one yet, but people are leaning towards Zorro. Added to that, we have a giant Schnoodle named Brodie who thinks he is a lapdog. Out of this plethora of beasts, Mimsy the goat and Cricket the cat are mine. My poor Cricket is a lovely little cat with orange and grey and white markings, six toes on her paws and only half a tail. She is extremely skittish after some bad experiences with dogs who wanted to play tug-of-war and the engine belt in my dad's work truck.

If you think that is a lot of animals, you should have seen it back when we had twice the goats, another dog and another cat.

This week's question is: How have your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you currently in love with?

At the moment I am totally in love with steampunk with paranormal/urban fantasy as a close second. I love the way fantasy blends with history in steampunk and how it blends with the modern world in paranormal/urban fantasy.

This week's topic is: Let's talk crazy titles! Highlight one or two (or as many as you like!) titles in your personal collection that have interesting titles. If you can't find any, feel free to find one on the internet!

This is a fun topic! I have a few titles that stand out to me as being "interesting."

Northanger Abbey and Angels and Dragons by Vera Nazarian

Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer

The Black Lung Captain by Chris Wooding

I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

The Meowmorphosis by Franz Kafka and Coleridge Cook

This week's question is:
What do you do when you are not reading?

Well, when I am not reading I spend a lot of time blogging (of course) and writing my own stories. I also like to take very long walks, sing, go to the library so I can read more...um, mostly just stuff. I watch tv shows and chick flicks with my mom, action movies with my dad and brothers. I plan a computer game with my not-so-little brother and write Persona Letters to my sister-in-law. My life will become more exciting in the fall when choir practice resumes and we start to prepare for the trip to Canada next summer.

This week's question is:
How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?

Most of my books come from the library or whatever giveaways I happen to win, as well as the occasional review request. Being a penniless teenager, going to a bookstore and actually buying anything is a rare treat.

This week's question is:
Let's step away from the besties...what is the worst book you've ever read and actually finished?

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham. I say that with no hesitation whatsoever, that book was like a nightmare for me. It was required reading when I was 8 or 9 and I still shudder at the memory almost a decade later.

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee.

This week's question is: In light of the summer solstice, also known as midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairytale or story that revolves around the fae?

My favorite fairytale is the Wild Swans where six brothers are turned into swans and their sister stays mute for years while weaving them shirts out of nettles. Juliet Marillier wrote a beautiful retelling of it called Daughter of the Forest, which is my favorite fairytale book. I am willing to read and likely to enjoy anything featuring the fae. :)

This week's question is: When did you realize that reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?

I can't remember a time when reading wasn't important in my life. My mom taught me to read young and I have never stopped or even slowed down. It is the purest form of torture when I can't get my hands on a book.

Follow Friday (5) and Book Blogger Hop (5)

Follow Friday is a weekly meme created by Parajunkee.

This week's question is: Genre Wars! What is your favorite genre and what book in that genre made it your favorite?

Hmm. At the moment, I am loving the paranormal genre. I always avoided it in the past for some reason or another, but then I read Cassandra Clare's novels and I have been reading paranormal ever since. I am a new fan of Kelley Armstrong, Sherrilyn Kenyon (well, sometimes), and I introduced myself to Alyson Noel's Immortals series a few days ago.

This week's question is: How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) pile?

Umm, which one? I have my library to-read list, my Goodreads to-read list, my notebook full of titles, my shelves with books I haven't read but have been meaning to, my kindle, my Adobe reader, all of the books sitting in my room that I borrowed from the library but haven't got around to reading yet...If you want to go for books that are physically available to me at this moment, it is probably about 100. If you want the lists of books I don't have but want it is probably upwards of 3,000. And that is just off the top of my head.

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee.

This week's question is:

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "You and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?

Oh, grr. There are so many great places to go and people to be! I am going to have to go with Tessa from Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. First of all, she is a shape-shifter which is my all-time favorite power. I know she has never tried to change into an animal, but that doesn't necessarily mean she can't.
Plus, she lives in a steampunk fantasy version of Victorian London and has two handsome, mysterious, British boys to choose between.

This week's question is:

Who is the one author you are dying to meet?

Just one??? I would love to meet Abigail Reynolds and Sasha Soren because I have e-mailed with them a lot and they are both so much fun that I would love to meet them person.
As for authors I have never communicated with but would love to...I think I would have the most interesting conversation with Lois McMaster Bujold. She writes wonderful fantasy and science fiction novels and I would love to ask her how on earth she even writes the character Miles Vorkosigan without going crazy herself.

This week's question is:
What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen? (Both of which could be terrifying.)
Oh, well, hmm. Odd questions. For the zombie apocalypse I have been doing a lot of research reading books like Enclave and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. With such useful guides, I am fairly confident in my ability to fight of the Dreadful scourge.

As for Mel Gibson...running seems like a really good idea.

Share your favorite post from the last month and tell us why it;s close to your heart!

Ooh, tough one. Sorry, I can't narrow it down to one. I loved Abigail Reynold's interview. She is such a fun and lovely lady I have had a great time e-mailing her and reading her books. I would do it again at the drop of a hat.
My interview with Marsha Altman is also a favorite, she was absolutely wonderful.
I had a fantastic time with every post related to the Random Magic Tour: Pirates! I had never been part of a blog tour before and it was way too much fun.
My favorite review this month was probably the one I did of City of Fallen Angels. I was still on a cliffhanger high when I wrote it, so it is rather crazy and says precisely what I felt when I read it instead of what I thought afterwards.

Follow Friday (2) and Book Blogger Hop (2)

This is my second Follow Friday (hosted by Parajunkee) and Book Blogger Hop (hosted by Crazy for Books).

This week's question is:
How many books do you read in a week?? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?

Umm, it depends on the week, but I generally read two or three books a day (depending on the length or how un-putdownable they are), so I would have to go with about 12 books a week. (There are some days when I am too busy with school/family/other stuff to read much at all.)

I read most books in paperback and hardback, but I have a PC Kindle as well as an Adobe Reader (also PC) that I read maybe two or three books a week on.

This week's question is:

What book-to-movie adaptation have you most liked? Which have you disliked?

I really like the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings adaptations, as well as both the Pride and Prejudice mini-series and movie. I actually liked the Stardust movie adaptation better than the book (which hardly ever happens with me!).

I really didn't like what they did to Eragon. It was a really fun book and they completely destroyed the story in the movie. Another awful adaptation would be The Seeker, based on The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. It was a marvelous book and they mangled it. There are quite a few movies in the works for books that I am interested in (Mortal Instruments, Hunger Games, a new Captain Blood, The Hobbit, Airborn, etc., etc., etc.) and I really hope they do a good job on them. They should know by now that people don't like it when their favorite stories are messed up.

Follow Friday: Quirkiness

Hello!

This is my first Follow Friday. I had seen this meme on other blogs and thought it looked like fun, so I am finally giving it a try. :)

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...
1. I sing in foreign languages as much (if not more) as I do in English

2. I tend to borrow more books from the library than any human being can be expected to read and then I stay up to ridiculous hours in an attempt to finish them before going to the library again.

3. I hate and despise socks. I am definitely a flip-flops kind of girl.

4. Heat makes me melt (not in a good way) and I love the cold.

6. Polysyllabic words are my passion. I use them to torture my siblings and sometimes even my parents. They say that nobody uses the word "insouciant", well, I do.

Thank you, Parajunkee, for inventing Follow Friday!
